Apparently, Ceylon sent a football team to the GANEFO in Indonesia (which was in 1963) led by MM Hassim Deen, but on RSSSF, there is no sign of a Ceylon team.

I found 11 countries that played GANEFO in 1963 in Jakarta :

Africa : Mali, Somalia, UAR
Asia : China, Indonesia, Laos, North Korea, Saudi Arabia
South America : Argentina, Chile, Uruguay

All teams from South America were Universities.
UAR was United Arab Republic formed by Egypt and Syria and led by Nasser from 1958 to 1961. In 1963 it was probably only Egypt.

do they played with best players ??
like Egypt, they got gold medal
they played with separate players in African Nations Cup 1963, finished third after a week

most nations in GANEFO were FIFA member
they may suffer spenalties for playing these games

did North Korea played with World Cup players in Asian GANEFO ??
some Chinese media like to report details of China-North Korea match, they said China NT were in world class level in that year

Strange to see N.Yemen compete in a tournament for communist countries.
South Yemen would be more likely, they had good relations with China, USSR, etc... North Yemen was an allie of the USA, Western Europ during the "cold war" period....
So I presume it was South Yemen that played GANEFO

I was wrong: it is N.Yemen in GANEFO; after the civil war in 1967 they turned to the Western world, before they were allies of the Soviet Union.
Sorry for my poor knowledge of history

For GANEFO 1963, Novan Herfiyana (Indonesia) found the same scores as Tanaka wrote above, except one game:
He said Uruguay 2-1 China. RSSSF also has 2-1, Tanaka said 3-1. I don't know which is correct.

He also said Uruguay won the 3rd place match by drawing lots (or tossing a coin). He couldn't confirm dates though, because his source was a weekly magazine, so he could only deduce approximate dates...

I told him about the friendlies and tours of the teams before the tournament, he said he will try to find more info.

Different people find different things interesting. You can paste the Chinese text into Google translator and decide the most interesting parts ;-)

You can view the blog by categories :

For example, activities of PR China's national team from about 1952-1966 (pre cultural revolution).

It also has detailed info on Chinese domestic football, particularly Shanghai and Beijing, in various years.

OK but then I will have to send you an invoice for my time Tongue

Translating the goal-scorers is harder because they are described in the flow of text so the automatic translation is confusing.   It would be much better to ask a Chinese speaker of course...
