 5. Jan Diddens *
Swartenbroeks used to be Belgium NT captain at the time. He and Jan Diddens were field for the Rotterdam match as the Belgians wanted a good result in that match.

The number before the names corresponds with the number of A-internationals they played before the match.
* played in the last official A for his country
+ made his official A-international debut in the next official A his country played.

For all matches played at Heizelstadion (now Koning Boudewijnstadion/Stade Roi Baudouin) Brussels is given at location as the stadium is located in the municipality of Brussels. This stadium is situated in the former Laken (Laeken) municipality, which became annexed by Brussels in 1921. Howver when I read Belgian newspapers or watch news on Belgian TV now, I notice Laken (Laeken) mostly is mentioned as location, not Brussels. May be Pieter can explain if here goes the same as with some locations within the Rotterdam municipality. There places as Hoek van Holland, Rozenburg, Hoogvliet, Heijplaat, Pernis, Zweth and Kralingseveer are always mentioned as separate locations even though they are part of the Rotterdam municipality.

Laeken is part of Bruxelles-Ville municipality (since 1921 as you said). Although as the stadium was not built until 1930 that part isn't so important :-)

Personally I think that, when it comes to cities/towns/municipalities on a list of matches, we can afford to be a little sloppy (or aim for simplicity) provided that the we also give the name of the stadium, as this removes any ambiguity. Except in some cases with several stadiums of the same name (Stade Jean Bouin... ARGH!)

Laken is still a municipality, but it is also part of Brussels, so both are correct as location

OK, I get your point. Things are more complicated in Holland. For Hoek van Holland, Rozenburg, Hoogvliet, Heijplaat, Pernis, Zweth and Kralingseveer only their respecive names are correct as location, not Rotterdam.

Regarding Rotterdam professional clubs one regard Feyenoord as a club from both Rotterdam and Varkenoord (part of IJsselmonde), but the report starts with: Rotterdam - ........ Excelsior is regarded as a club from both Rotterdam and Kralingen, Sparta Rotterdam as a club from Rotterdam and Spangen (part of Delfshaven, which is also the home of several Cape Verde NT players).

In Holland there also are a lot of municipalities which are not named to a city or village. This is due to fusions between municipalities. Close to Rotterdam there is i.e. the municipality of Midden-Delfland, consisting of the villages Maasland, Schipluiden and Den Hoorn as well as various neighbourhoods. They never use Midden-Delfland as location, only the respective village or neighbourhood.

quite easy to solve as we can give it various names, depending on the location:
Stade Jean-Bouin, Amiens
Stade Jean-Bouin, Angers
Stade Jean-Bouin, Évreux
Stade Jean-Bouin, Issy-les-Moulineaux
Stade Jean-Bouin, Joué-lès-Tours
Stade Jean-Bouin, Paris
Stade Jean-Bouin, Marseille
Stade Jean-Bouin, Nîmes
Stade Jean-Bouin, Saint-Priest

Personally I like Stade Jean-Bouin, Issy-les-Moulineaux most as location.

Here a link about Jean Bouin, who was killed in action on 29 September 1914. More about him on the French Wikipedia site.
