Adam Wolanin (1919-1987) was born in Poland and ended up in the US via Britain where he reputedly played for Blackpool reserves. His only international was the 1-3 loss to Spain at the 1950 World Cup. Are there other players like him whose only appearance in the NT was at the WC? I guess at least some played their only game in the continental tournament.

Similarly, Walter Dick of USA in 1934, and Leandro Remondini, Ivano Blason, and Augusto Magli of Italy in 1950. Albert Rust (France) in 1986 also. Maybe some of the Egyptians in 1934, or Indonesians in 1938 ?

That's just bizarre, such a strange set of circumstances that that would be the only time he's ever needed for his country.

He'd had more caps than 1 already, but it reminds me a little of Danny Ward. 2 caps that were only as substitutes earlier in the year, then on the day of Wales' biggest match in almost 60 years gets told he's starting. And due to first-choice Wayne Hennessey recovering from his injury, Ward hasn't set foot on a pitch for Wales ever since.

And someone who's become a regular in the France squad ever since, but Samuel Umtiti didn't have a single cap until the start of their Euro 2016 Quarter-Final last year...

Similarly, Marama Vahirua of Tahiti made his international début at the 2013 Confederations Cup, aged 33. In the first game versus Nigeria he even wore the armband, after the official captain, Nicolas Vallar, was substituted at 54'.
International football often offers such interesting and bizarre stories. But it's not easy to find them out.
