Wow I can't believe they have to train in the snow in temperature of below -20 celcius. They are playing a tournament on a tropical Island which doesn't exactly help.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Northern Mariana Islands have been provisionally approved as an Associate Member of the AFC.

The decision was taken on Wednesday by the AFC Executive Committee.

The Northern Mariana Islands Football Association (NMIFA) resigned from the Oceania Football Confederation in June 2009, paving the way to join AFC.

Thereafter, world football governing body FIFA advised that NMIFA can join AFC but as an Associate Member.

The AFC family currently has 46 Member Associations.

The AFC Exco agreed to accept the Northern Mariana Islands Football Association (NMIFA) as an Associate Member of AFC. The NMIFA will be a provisional member until the next AFC Congress, when it has the chance to be ratified as a permanent Associate Member.

Talking about the loss to Keio University:

""Although we lost, we still played well," said Stafford. "I'm excited about continuing to work with the team in preparation for the Marianas Cup in April, and hopefully for world cup qualifying games this summer.""

I am not sure what makes them think they will be able to participate in World Cup qualifying, or who told them that this was the case. I sometimes wonder where people get their information from.

Also, "They are in the process of becoming full members of soccer's world governing body, FIFA, and will participate in World Cup qualifying for the first time for the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil."

I don't think this is true either.

Still not enough funds and just time until mid February. I doubt they will send a football team.

Well, if FIFA allows non-independent countries, then they should be OK. But we can never tell. Gibraltar and Zanzibar were not successful for this reason, so not sure why Northern Marianas should be any different.
